IMPROVED GENERATOR OF XENON RADIONUCLIDES BASED ON A SEALED 252CF SOURCE OF SPONTANEOUS FISSION PRODUCTS

Abstract:
An improved xenon radionuclide generator has been developed using a 252Cf‑based source of spontaneous fission products. The generator is designed for the preparation of gas preparations containing a known amount of radioactive gaseous fission products: 131mXe, 133mXe, 133Xe and 135Xe, used in the calibration of equipment for monitoring the content of xenon radionuclides in atmospheric air. The design of the generator is completely autonomous, which makes it possible to use it not only in the laboratory, but also in the field when making measurements using mobile monitoring equipment. Metrological certification of the 252Cf source was carried out. The curves of accumulation of xenon radionuclides in the generator are calculated. Gamma-spectrometric measurements of the activity of radionuclides in the prepared gas preparations was carried out and the results obtained was compared with the calculated values. The value of the output coefficient of xenon radionuclides from the generator is determined
